ABOUT THE ROLE
As Vortala’s Accountant, you will be responsible for various accounting tasks, including record-keeping, financial data entry, reconciliations, and supporting senior staff.
Success in this role is dependent on:
- Completed relevant Accounting related studies
- 2-5 years verifiable accounting experience
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Sound time management and organizational skills
- The ability to work autonomously
- Exceptional inter-personal and communication skills, both verbally and written
- Multi-currency/foreign exchange management
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel (formulas, functions, etc.)
- Familiarity with Xero (or similar) accounting software
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Accountant reports to the Financial Controller, and focuses on, but is not limited to the following:
Financial Accounting and day-to-day accounting
- Maintain the full general ledger and prepare monthly trial balance.
- Perform accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are supported and variances resolved.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.
- Process journals, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments as required.
- Monitor fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and asset registers.
- Processing of Accounts Payable and day-to-day transactions.
- Assistance with Accounts Receivable processes.
- Processing of monthly payroll and contractor payments.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare management reports, variance analysis, and commentary for leadership.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and key financial metrics.
- Identify process improvements and contribute to system and workflow optimisation.
Operational Support
- Collaborate with Accounts Receivable, and operational teams to ensure accurate coding and timely processing.
- Provide financial insights to support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Respond to internal queries and provide guidance on accounting matters.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare GST/BAS returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation for review by management.
- Assist with payroll tax, FBT, and other statutory reporting as required.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to financial policies.
HOW TO SECURE AN INTERVIEW
To secure an interview, you should possess the following skills and experience:
- Exceptional inter-personal and communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Sound time management and organizational skills.
- The ability to work autonomously.
- High level of data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel (formulas, functions, etc.).
- 2 years of verifiable accounting experience.
Preferred qualities:
- Familiarity with Xero (or similar) accounting software.
- Payroll management (ideally inc. multi-country payroll experience).
- Multi-currency/foreign exchange management.
